Access to abortion

Association for Access to Abortion v. Attorney General of Quebec.

VICTORY FOR THE WOMEN OF QUÉBEC

On August 17, 2006, the Québec Superior Court presided by Madam justice Nicole Bénard ordered the Government of Québec to pay over $13,000,000 to the women of Québec who had to pay to obtain an abortion between May 2, 1999 and February 22, 2006.

On January 9, 2007, Madam justice Bénard approved the claims process whereby women will be able to present their claim for reimbursement of the amount they paid as of February 24, 2006.

The claim period has now ended. The RAMQ has until February 8, 2008 to send the reimbursement cheques to the members.
